<p>The redesigned Grand Caravan, however, delivers a firmer, yet still comfortable ride, with a carlike steering feel that&#8217;s a pleasure to find in this most unlikely of segments.</p>

<p>These improvements have been accomplished by lowering the Grand Caravan&#8217;s ride height by about half an inch, revising the shock and spring tuning and some suspension bushings, and switching to a quicker hydraulic power steering rack.</p>

<p>But the Grand Caravan&#8217;s body motions are well controlled while cornering, and despite its 4,500-pound curb weight, there&#8217;s no crashing over bumps or feeling of top-heaviness. The steering is taut and responsive, and the Grand Caravan feels firmly planted at all times.</p>

<p>The 2011 Dodge Avenger has eschewed the full nose-job of its Chrysler cousin in favor of a simple fascia tweak. The new front bumper cap is slightly rounder compared to that of the 2010 model and it accommodates the redesigned Dodge corporate grille well.</p>

<p>The good news is that once you&#8217;re indoors, the differences between last year&#8217;s Avenger and the 2011 become much more apparent, starting with the dashboard. The cheap-feeling expanses of hard plastic have been done away with and replaced by a very snappy-looking single-piece unit.</p>

<p>Our tester was thankfully equipped with the optional six-speed automatic transmission, and while it&#8217;s a huge improvement over the four-cog unit, this transmission still struggles to make up for the shortfalls of the relatively thirsty four-cylinder.</p>

<p>any case, if you have your heart set on going Mopar, take our advice and step up to the Avenger Heat. At $23,745, it rolls with the Pentastar V6 as standard equipment. With 29 mpg highway and over 100 additional horsepower compared to the four-cylinder, the price premium is well worth it.</p>

The design of the interior looks good, but implementation is poor, with many cheap-feeling hard plastic. In a comparative one Avenger SXT with the 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine finished in last place behind a Chevrolet Malibu, Ford Fusion, Honda Accord, Sonata Hyundai, Nissan Altima and Toyota Camry.</p>
<p>Three engines and three trim levels (SE, SXT, R / T) are available on the Avenger. SE and SXT models are equipped with a 173-horsepower, 2.4-liter four cylinder and four-speed automatic transmission, excellent fuel economy-21 mpg city and 30 mpg highway offers.
